In 1940, the Belgian Government in exile in London created an infantry brigade and handed it over in 1942 to the command of Lieutenant-Colonel Jean-Baptiste Piron. The Brigade would take his name. In 1944, Luxembourg soldiers joined the Piron Brigade, which thus became the first Belgian-Luxembourg military cooperation. The Piron Brigade would take part in the Battle of Normandy and then in the liberation of Brussels on 3 September 1944. It would continue its fight against the German army in Belgium and then in the Netherlands.

As part of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Brussels and Luxembourg City, the Pierre Werner Institute invites you to return to the conference on the history of the participation of this binational brigade in the war efforts:

- Professor Francis Balace will retrace the history of the Piron Brigade from the landing.

- Historian Vincent Artuso will focus on the Luxembourg battery of the Piron Brigade.

- Finally, historian Stéphane Simonnet will examine the question of what place the Piron Brigade can occupy in the collective memories of the landing and the battle in Normandy.
