For some time now, elements of Catholic devotion have been gaining popularity again. On platforms like TikTok, young people are rediscovering the aesthetic of the rosary in the 21st century under the hashtag "catholic core." Simultaneously, in the debate over post-conciliar liturgy, aesthetic arguments are often made. A Mass according to the Roman Missal of 1962 is said to be more beautiful. These various phenomena raise the question of whether there is a specifically Catholic aesthetic. If so, what makes it distinctive, and why does it appeal to different people? And finally, can something religious be gained from this aesthetic without falling into contemporary or reactionary aestheticism? Lecture by Louis Berger, followed by a panel discussion.
