Films like "All Quiet on the Western Front" (1930/2022), "The Bridge" (1959), and "Come and See"/"Requiem for a Massacre" (1985) not only denounce the ruthless violence of war but also its lasting influence on the physical and mental integrity of young soldiers. While "All Quiet on the Western Front", based on the 1929 novel by Erich Maria Remarque, mainly analyzes the trauma of young soldiers who followed blind militarism and alleged patriotic ideals during World War I, "The Bridge" and "Come and See" depict the horror, tragedy, and the deep absurdity of World War II from the perspective of children. The conference will examine some of the most striking cinematic representations of youth in war films and, consequently, the effects of militarism, propaganda, acts of war, and moral dilemmas on young people's psyche.
