Join us for an engaging talk on "Mattering and Why It Matters," where we'll delve into the profound psychological need to feel useful and valued; followed by networking with our members, positive psychology experts and aficionados, and celebrate the successful year of the PPL association.

Through key research insights, we'll explore:

- How contributing to the lives of others acts as a powerful yet often overlooked source of motivation and fulfilment.
- Why the concept of mattering has received relatively little attention, despite extensive research showing that sustainable well-being often lies in 'getting outside of ourselves.'

This talk will also challenge common well-being narratives, questioning how the popular oxygen mask metaphor may lead us astray and why the idea of "balancing" self-care and other care can be misleading.

Participants will leave with a fresh perspective on well-being, practical tools for integrating mattering into their lives, and a reimagined understanding of what it means to live fully.

Whether in personal or professional spheres, this talk invites you to rethink well-being and embrace a life enriched through connection and contribution.

Our guest speaker and facilitator is Evie Rosset, PhD, an experimental psychologist whose career bridges both academia — through teaching and research — and real-world applications. She teaches Positive Psychology at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, UK, and founded the non-profit Maac Lab (www.maac-lab.com). Her work focuses on social well-being and our natural 'pro-social instincts' — the desire to help others, create connections, and contribute to the greater good. Originally from Boston, she has lived in Lyon, France, for the past 17 years.

This talk is organized by the Association of Positive Psychology Luxembourg. Our mission is to contribute to the improvement of the well-being of the Luxembourg community and the Greater Region through the promotion and dissemination of positive psychology applications. We believe that what we offer to the community is valid and effective through psychological interventions proven by rigorous studies.
