After addressing and discussing the struggles of a mixed-race couple, the issues faced by low-wage migrant workers and the extreme difficulties faced by asylum seekers, in December our documentary will turn your attention to the often overlooked mental health. We will show the poetic personal journey of director Alessandra Celesia who dares to show her open wounds and make viewers look at their own in this unique testimony of healing.

Alessandra's film "The Mechanics of Things" will be screened on December 11th at Ciné Sura in Echternach and on December 17th at Kinoler in Kahler. Both screenings start at 7:30 pm. After each screening, Alessandra Celesia will join us on Zoom to discuss the key points of her multifaceted documentary.

As she shares: "If I had to define the genre of this film, I would say it is a contemporary fable, with all the necessary ingredients: magical animals, modern wizards, potions, more or less improbable remedies, miraculous people, bikers lost on their motorcycles and fathers sliding towards the abyss. It is a story of healing, which is ultimately uncertain, because our inner wounds are never really healed. A rather crazy story, I hope, with the ambition to speak to others, not just to me. Because the extraordinary combination of events that I relate has the necessary power to go beyond the "little personal film", and echo the fragility of each of us in the face of existence."

In this film, everyone can find something that resonates with them. This is a film for all documentary lovers. Plus, access to all our Doc & Talk: Living Together events is free.

This activity can also be validated as a module of the Biergerpakt.

The film is subtitled in English. There will be simultaneous translation of the discussion after the screenings of "The Mechanics of Things", from and into French at Kahler, and German at Echternach. Thanks to this special feature of all Doc & Talk events, everyone will be able to ask their questions in the language that suits them.
