Art in Relation – Immersive Installations
Since 2006, the artist Philippe Parreno has created light panels similar to those adorning the facades of theaters and performance halls, which he programs to blink at varied intervals. The facade marks the boundary between the spectacle and the world, between fiction and reality. This conference aims to examine one of his first light panels, Marquee (2008), in the context of the artist's work. It will also be an opportunity to connect his work to a new approach to art, called "relational aesthetics," of which Philippe Parreno became a leading figure in the early 1990s. Alongside a group of young artists, Philippe Parreno proposes that art is a form of direct social interaction. He and his peers view the object as a relational element and therefore consider the idea of exhibition as fundamental.
