Liichtmëssdag, also known as Candlemas, is a charming traditional Luxembourgish holiday that takes place on the eve of Saint Blaise's Day, on February 2nd. The origins of Liichtmëssdag date back to pre-Christian times, but today the holiday is associated with Saint Blaise, one of the fourteen Helpers of the Holy Spirit venerated in Roman Catholicism. He is said to not only protect livestock, but also help with sore throats, ulcers, and the plague.
