Eduardo Egüez and La Chimera have established themselves as reference performers of this repertoire. They offer a new program filled with irresistible rhythms and melodies, juxtaposing Corelli's sonatas with the syncretic compositions of Peru from earlier times.
During the baroque period, the scores of great Spanish, Portuguese, and even Italian masters reached Latin America aboard European ships and, conversely, did not hesitate to borrow the rhythms and colors of Amerindian practices. What is called "South American Baroque" certainly owes its remarkable vitality to these musical comings and goings, as evidenced by collections of the era, two of which come from Peru, the famous Codex Martínez Compañón and the less known but just as fascinating Codex Zuola.
Featuring: Barbara Kusa, soprano; Luis Rigou, Andean flutes; Margherita Pupulin, violin; Eduardo Egüez, theorbo.
