Although it has long been associated with dark and macabre connotations, extreme music has the ability to be a powerful mode of expression for feelings of absolute bliss, overwhelming love, and awe-inspiring sublimity. Extreme emotions, no less, and those evoked by black metal quartet Agriculture with their ecstatic subversion of the subgenre's tropes. On Agriculture's self-titled album and first full-length album, it's abundantly clear that the band's use of heavy music to highlight the most resplendent emotions and moments of the human experience has a much deeper meaning. Between the bursts of tremolos, the crescendoing guitar harmonies, the shouted songs of celebration, the thoughtful improvisation and the meditative atmospheric passages, the album's mission is to experience the wonders and joys of the esoteric world and the physical world.
