Since 2018, the Institute of Luxembourgish Language and Literature of the University of Luxembourg, in close collaboration with cultural institutions, has been organizing a series of conferences on Luxembourgish cultural history from the 19th century to the present. The Rotondes are participating for the 4th time, with two conferences on the theme of children's and youth theatre.

For at least 200 years, theatre has been performed for, by and with children and young people in Luxembourg. Dedicated school staff and church leaders have kept elves, Christmas plays, fairy tales and St. Nicholas stories alive. Later, writers, ensembles and theatre houses have brought their own plays to stages across the country at youth and student organisations, clubs and schools. This is what the first conference, moderated by Christiane Kremer, will be about. She will also present the second conference, which will show how new cultural institutions and the programming of "Luxembourg Capital of Culture 2007" have professionalised children's and youth theatre in the 21st century.

And that's right! Because, to quote Guy Rewenig's play from 1976: "Children are people too."
