After studying with composers such as Morton Feldman and Lukas Foss, everything indicated that Julius Eastman (1940-1990) would have a bright musical future. Since 1980, he has performed throughout the United States and Europe, and is an integral part of the New York downtown scene where he works, among others, with Meredith Monk. But his self-destructive tendencies inevitably catch up with him and put an end to his life as an extraordinary creator. The extraordinary trilogy composed of Evil Nigger, Crazy Nigger and Gay Guerilla, whose titles are evocative of the questions of identity and insubordination that tormented the composer, eloquently illustrates his contribution to the American minimalist movement. On the pianos, four artists represent a generation of hybrid performers equally at home in classical and contemporary repertoire: Melaine Dalibert, Stephane Ginsburgh, Nicolas Horvath and Wilhem latchoumia.
