Like Orwell's novel 1984, the jazz opera 1984 describes a not too distant future. Building on Orwell's characters and based on the structure of the novel, the piece tells a dystopian vision of a totalitarian surveillance state. An artificial intelligence (AI) is used to monitor humanity, which has almost completely destroyed planet Earth. With the help of AI, it is hoped that humans and nature will finally be able to live in harmony, both mentally and physically.
