I promised a night hike for this year and what better time for it than the spooky Halloween period.
Halloween's origins can be traced back to the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain, held on November 1 in contemporary calendars. It was believed that on that day, the souls of the dead returned to their homes, so people dressed in costumes and lit bonfires to ward off spirits. Last year we had great success with our Halloween hike at Echternach Lake. This year, I figured, why not make it even better with a barbecue and gluhwein at the end.
Unfortunately, Halloween falls on Thursday, October 31, and I'm not here, so I brought it earlier. Saturday is better since nobody needs to rush to the hike from work.
The hike is not too long; we will start it in daylight and end it around sunset (around 18:40).
What to bring:
- Headlight
- Hiking sticks
- Hiking boots
- Gloves
- Dress warmly as it's an October night
- Food and drinks for the BBQ for yourself (There is a Cactus in Mamer but no gas stations or anything open late at night, so bring everything you need)
There are two large fire pits next to each other. However, the last time I went alone, the place was super busy. Let's hope it won’t be at night, but I cannot promise.
Start time: 17:00. Meeting point: MAMER, Baerendall bus stop (from Lux direction)
We will start the hike around 17:00 and the barbecue is expected to start around 19:00. Those who do not want to participate in the BBQ can leave earlier.
Public transport: Take the tram to Étoile; buses 802, 850, 811, 812 run there regularly. Last bus to get there on time: 16:33->16:47 (Bus 811).
LNB 222 night bus to Gare Centrale runs hourly 00:20/01:20/02:20.
BBQ area is directly reachable by car and only 2.5km walk directly from Mamer center.
