As part of the Villerupt Italian Festival, these two films will be screened at the Kufa on November 6.
6:30 p.m. screening: In Grazia di Dio
Leuca, the extreme tip of Puglia. Here as elsewhere, the economic crisis strikes; the Tagliaferro family's small business is bankrupt. Adele (Celeste Casciaro) must resolve to close. This does not displease her sister Maria Concetta (Barbara De Matteis) who dreams of becoming an actress. Failure seems to destroy everything, even the bonds of affection. Vito (Amerigo Russo), the brother, leaves to look for work in Switzerland. Adele, her daughter Ida (Laura Licchetta), Maria Conchetta, and Salvatrice (Anna Boccadamo), their mother, move to the house in the countryside and work the land to survive.
8:30 p.m. screening: Misericordia
Betta (Simona Malato) and Nuccia (Tiziana Cuticchio) are two prostitutes who raise Arturo (Simone Zambelli). They live together in a hamlet in Sicily, threatened by Polifemo (Fabrizio Ferracane), their pimp. Arturo, loved like their son, grows up protected from the brutality of the world.
