Everything has happened without me. I don't know what happened. Hamm survived the global catastrophe and henceforth tyrannizes Clov, the other survivor. The world is barren and empty, civilization disintegrates, but in the apocalyptic chaos, comedy prevails. The protagonist Hamm is not only lame but also blind. He is dependent on Clov, who serves him although Hamm persists in tormenting him every step of the way. Meaningless rituals and humiliations are Hamm's way of passing the time. However, Clov is aware of the mutual dependency, for only Hamm knows how to access food. However, if Hamm makes good on his threat to withhold food from Clov, they will both die. "Endgame" is considered a masterpiece of the Theatre of the Absurd, going far beyond it. Samuel Beckett presents the man reduced to mere existence, his insurmountable loneliness, and his last small hope of being able to stick his head out of the sand at the end. "Endgame" is a venomous, grotesque, comedic text - like life. The legendary director David Mouchtar-Samorai returns to the TNL after his Ibsen production "Eyolf Trauma", where he brings a new vision of Beckett's classic to the stage with two outstanding actors: André Jung and Ulrich Kuhlmann.
