Imagine that, in the same way that you don't throw away things like glass, paper or clothes in your home, but reuse them or take them to the dump so that others can reuse them, architects don't always design houses to be built from new materials. They can also use old objects to create new things. And this is extremely important, because unfortunately, our planet has very limited resources and we all use way too much of them, so you might not have enough when you grow up...
But don’t worry! Many people are actively working to make us throw away less and find good ways to use as many materials as possible, not just once, but several times. This principle is called “circular economy”: objects are reused, repaired or transformed into something new instead of being thrown away.
Did you know that architects “recycle” metals such as steel, aluminum or copper, even concrete, tiles and of course wood from old buildings and use them to renovate old objects or build new ones?
Since all this is very important to protect our earth and our lives, LUCA invites you to a practical day to discover the principles of this so-called “circular economy” and to design and build your own objects from recycled materials.
It starts with a screening of the animated film "The Lorax". Are you curious to see what's behind it? Then let yourself be surprised and participate!
