On the occasion of the 180th anniversary of the birth of Paul Verlaine, Metz celebrates the 180th anniversary of the poet from Metz through the exhibition "Verlaine180". Bringing together contemporary artists inspired by his modernity and boldness, the City of Metz pays a vibrant tribute to the figure of the poet from Metz, a rebellious icon and forerunner of the punk spirit.

Verlaine is universal in his search for personal and emotional truth. His poetry explores intimate and conflicted themes – love, jealousy, solitude – timeless subjects that resonate today.

The freedom of expression and creation he advocated continues to influence modern artists. This exhibition brings together works by musicians, painters, and artists who draw from Verlaine raw energy, human frailty, and a passion that still inspires them today.

A diversity of artists who, through paintings, photographs, installations, and performances, reinterpret the unique vision of the poet. Their work reminds how Verlaine, with his bold style and poignant verses, continues to resonate, inspire, and challenge conventions.

This exhibition, both a tribute and a rediscovery, invites the public to explore an ageless Verlaine, more relevant than ever. A reader will recite Verlaine's poems every Wednesday and Saturday at 2 PM during the exhibition.
