Regular guided tour: Jean-Pierre Beckius (1899–1946)
Even today, Jean-Pierre Beckius is often called the "painter of the Moselle", while his paintings are distinguished by a great diversity of motifs and his artistic expertise goes far beyond the imitation of impressionist painting. On the occasion of his 125th birthday, an exhibition of 90 paintings and studies presents the different characteristic periods of the painter's work. The exhibition gives priority to little-known or unknown creations by the artist who left behind a vast legacy of paintings and drawings, mostly belonging to his family. The selection is completed by works from the collections of the Villa Vauban.
These are mainly works made abroad, in France (notably in Paris), Italy and the Netherlands, but also portraits of members of the Beckius family. The artist's life is documented through photographs.
