Sunday Architectural Walks - Disappearing Alleys of the Upper Town
The urban planning concept developed by landscape engineer Édouard André in 1873, following the dismantling of the fortifications, included a whole hierarchy of green spaces, including alleys, squares, public promenades, urban and forest parks. The new boulevards and avenues were lined with trees of different species. However, nowadays all these alleys have disappeared: why? In the face of climate change, the concept of greenery in the city is gaining importance. Could the avenues experience a revival?
