Carmina Burana: The title means 'songs of Beuren,' named after the Bavarian abbey where the medieval poems that inspired Carl Orff were found. After the famous prologue of the score, the work exalts pleasure—be it love, eroticism, money, or wine—in a caricature of human flaws. This picturesque plunge into the fringes of madness contrasts with the mystical world of Celestial Waters, an orchestral painting with enchanting colors. The young composer Camille Pépin, who is experiencing a meteoric rise, draws inspiration from an ancient Chinese legend narrating the creation of the Milky Way.
