Our favourites during the visit (even though we've lost counting them): the golden arch, with its nod to the Gëlle Fra, which is just above our heads at this point!
The projection room in the rock, where the Casemates of yesteryear tell their story to the Casemates of today. And the loopholes, lit up in blue, which let the sun's rays through (we'll leave you with the surprise of the view) 😉

When you reach the end of the tour, don't forget to take a look at the huge cannon (used for the last time on the occasion of the birth of Grand Duke Jean in 1921), before heading back outside to the beautiful valley for another breathtaking view.

If like us you're wondering what the Casemates were used for...
During the tour, we are told that the town's fortifications have had many unusual uses: starting with a place for growing mushrooms (yes, yes, you read that right) 🍄, a champagne cellar, a headquarters for a shooting society, a place for concerts and theatrical performances (on the Pétrusse side)... and the 2 even housed up to 35,000 people during the raids of the First World War!
Even though the galleries are part of the huge military defence system, you can confirm to your dad that they were never used for warlike activities 😌

UNESCO World Heritage Site
Things have changed a lot since then, except for their soul and their beauty! As proof, the fortifications of the City of Luxembourg and its old quarters have been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994... and there's plenty to amaze us for many years to come 🇱🇺
